About Liberate Us

Liberate Us Ltd. is an inclusive higher education consultancy and development company grounded in academic expertise and practical delivery.

Who we are

We are ‘Teleola Cartwright and Dr Nick Cartwright. We founded Liberate Us Ltd. in 2021. Since then, we have worked with universities, schools, councils and third-sector organisations across the UK and internationally.

We are an inclusive education consultancy focused on supporting meaningful change across teaching, learning, research and institutional practice.

Our work is grounded in a commitment to equity, belonging and social justice within education.

‘Teleola Cartwright

‘Teleola Cartwright LLB AFHEA is an inclusive education specialist with over a decade of experience working across higher education and the third sector in the UK and internationally.

She began her work in education supporting students excluded from school and their families, later leading teams of student advocates and teaching in pupil referral units. She has also taught law at university level and is a qualified immigration adviser.

‘Teleola was Research Lead for the Living Black at University (2022) report, which has driven significant change in student accommodation across the UK. Her work brings together theory, empirical research and practice to support inclusive change across the student journey.

Her recent research on the experiences of Black university staff will be published in Living Black at University: Anti-racist Praxis Beyond the Curriculum (Manchester University Press, 2026), which she co-edited with Dr Nick Cartwright and Osaro Otobo.

What we do

The expertise and approaches developed through this work have had a positive impact across multiple projects.
— Chairperson, The Breen Centre

We work with institutions to design and implement practical approaches to equity, diversity and inclusion across:

  • Strategy and institutional change

  • Inclusive curriculum and teaching

  • Data, evaluation and impact

  • Leadership and governance

  • Training and development

Our focus is on moving from aspiration to action - supporting institutions to embed change that is measurable, sustainable and aligned with their context.

Who we work with

Liberation is at the heart of education

Inclusion is a liberatory practice. It requires addressing the structural, cultural and pedagogical barriers that limit participation in education.

“Us” matters

We use “us” intentionally. Inclusion is collective — it is not about identifying individuals as the problem, but recognising that exclusion affects everyone.

Community matters

Alongside our consultancy work, we support educational initiatives that widen access and participation, including public legal education and support for learners internationally.

We work with universities, faculties, departments and leadership teams seeking to strengthen inclusive practice and deliver tangible outcomes for students and staff.

Our approach is collaborative, rigorous and grounded in the realities of institutional life.

We are always happy to have an initial, informal conversation.
